The new mbedGC is in the house! Issues we had on the original were corrected and other improvements have been made to the newer version. Compare the new version on the right with the original on the left and you’ll see it’s now 35% smaller.

The smaller size was achieved by moving many of the components in between the female headers for the mbed microcontroller. Also, the hex inverter microchip was replaced with a surface mounted equivalent. The game console now supports two players and the wii controller ports is routed directly on the board. (The idea was borrowed from Wayne & Layne’s Video Game Shield.)

It took roughly an hour and a half to solder the components to the board. With the mbed preloaded with Snake the game console worked on the first attempt. This is the final version of the senior design and it will be presented on April 15th at FIU.
